Where to stay in Rochester: a short guide for visitors and workers
By DNT Stays team · 17 October 2026 · 1 min read

Rochester is one of the most characterful towns in Kent. The Norman castle and the cathedral sit side by side above the River Medway, and the cobbled High Street is full of independent shops, cafes and pubs.
Getting there
Rochester station has direct trains to London, and the A2 and M2 put the rest of Kent within easy reach. For workers on sites around Medway, it is a practical base with plenty of places to eat in the evening.
The High Street and old town
Staying within walking distance of the High Street means you can leave the car at home in the evening. The castle, cathedral and the Guildhall Museum are all close together, and the town is known for its Dickens connections.
For families and groups
Larger groups often struggle to find space in Rochester's hotels and guest houses. A whole house lets everyone stay together, cook, and spread out in the evenings.
Our Rochester house has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeps up to ten, and is a few minutes' walk from the High Street, castle and station. It works well for families visiting relatives, wedding parties and work crews.
Parking
Parking in central Rochester is mostly on-street or in paid car parks. If you are bringing more than one vehicle, ask us about the options before you book.
Nearby
Chatham's Historic Dockyard is a short drive or bus ride away, and Gillingham, Strood and the wider Medway towns are all close.
